Karen Wittman is a partner at Myers LLP in the civil litigation department. Karen has over 25 years of experience as a civil litigator dealing with issues in a broad range of areas, including personal injury litigation (including historical sexual assault claims and claims for catastrophic injuries), negligence, contractual disputes, employment law, municipal law, corporate/commercial litigation, and administrative law.

Karen has appeared before all levels of court in Manitoba as well as various administrative tribunals. She brings with her a wealth of experience in litigation, negotiation, and alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration.

Karen’s skills and expertise have earned her recognition within her field from clients and peers. She has been included in the 2024 and 2025 editions of Best Lawyers™ Canada in the field of Administrative and Public Law. She is also a respected speaker on topics in litigation and, for a number of years, was an instructor and learning group facilitator for the Centre for Professional Legal Education Program Bar Admission Course with the Law Society of Manitoba.

In addition to her practice, Karen is the Chair of the Manitoba Criminal Code Review Board, which makes and reviews dispositions with respect to individuals found not criminally responsible on account of mental disorder or unfit to stand trial.

Karen is a Board member with Lawyers Financial, Past-President of the Manitoba Bar Association, former Chair of the Women Lawyers Forum, and former Chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s Professional Development Committee.

Avery received his Juris Doctor in 2021 from the Robson Hall Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. Prior to attending law school, Avery received his Bachelor of Arts, majoring in political science.

Throughout law school, Avery volunteered and later worked at the Legal Help Centre of Winnipeg as a summer student. Avery also volunteered as defence counsel at the University of Manitoba Community Law Centre and provided settlement services for refugee claimants at the Manitoba Interfaith Immigration Council Welcome Place. He also worked as an editor of the Manitoba Law Journal. In 2020, Avery was selected to clerk at the Provincial Court and served as co-chair of the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers Robson Hall chapter. In 2018, Avery was selected for the Schwartz Reisman scholarship for community involvement and academic excellence. In 2021, Avery was awarded the Paul Teskey Memorial Prize for the highest academic standing in Labour Law and Mediation courses. Avery currently serves as a board member for Connect Employment Services.

In his spare time, Avery enjoys playing soccer and hockey and spending time with his family and friends.

Sharna graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba in 2017 and was called to the Bar in 2018. Following her call to the Bar, she practiced civil litigation at a mid-size firm in Winnipeg for 5 years before joining Myers LLP as an associate in 2023.

As a civil litigator, Sharna has experience advising and assisting clients with a broad range of legal issues, with a focus on estate litigation, contractual disputes, personal injury, construction, collections, employment law and regulatory matters. She understands the challenges presented by civil litigation and is committed to providing detailed, timely and ongoing communication with clients, coupled with cost-effective advice and results.

Sharna received the Margaret Hypatia Crawford Prize for achieving the highest standing in third year law in 2017, the Frederick J. Turner, Q.C./ Keith Turner, Q.C. Prize for highest standing in Conflict of Laws, the Garth Erickson Memorial Prize for highest standing in Commercial Law, the Mel Myers, Q.C. Award for highest standing in Administrative Law and the Oscar Wilder Memorial Prize for highest standing in Environmental Law.

In addition to her legal practice, Sharna actively participates in professional organizations and volunteer opportunities.
