Avery received his Juris Doctor in 2021 from the Robson Hall Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. Prior to attending law school, Avery received his Bachelor of Arts, majoring in political science.
Throughout law school, Avery volunteered and later worked at the Legal Help Centre of Winnipeg as a summer student. Avery also volunteered as defence counsel at the University of Manitoba Community Law Centre and provided settlement services for refugee claimants at the Manitoba Interfaith Immigration Council Welcome Place. He also worked as an editor of the Manitoba Law Journal. In 2020, Avery was selected to clerk at the Provincial Court and served as co-chair of the Canadian Association of Refugee Lawyers Robson Hall chapter. In 2018, Avery was selected for the Schwartz Reisman scholarship for community involvement and academic excellence. In 2021, Avery was awarded the Paul Teskey Memorial Prize for the highest academic standing in Labour Law and Mediation courses. Avery currently serves as a board member for Connect Employment Services.
In his spare time, Avery enjoys playing soccer and hockey and spending time with his family and friends.
